How to export products by category in Magento 2 (Magento Open Source 2, Adobe Commerce)

The need to export products from specific categories in Magento 2 (Magento Open Source 2, Adobe Commerce) usually occurs when only certain goods from the catalog need to be selected out and copied to file for further modifications, to be sent to supplier for stock notifications or other purposes.

How to See Goods Belonging to Certain Magento Category?

In Magento 2 (Magento Open Source 2, Adobe Commerce) back-end go to Catalog -> Categories .

In this window you will see category tree on the left and information on selected category on the right. To see goods assigned to this category, open 'Products in Category’ tab

Now you might need to export products belonging to this category.

Is There a Way Export Products by Category in Magento Back-End?

Unfortunately, Magento 2 (Magento Open Source 2, Adobe Commerce) does not offer you ability to export only certain goods that you have filtered or selected in any other way.

So, if you go to Import/Export and export goods to file, after it was opened in any spreadsheet program you will see ‘_category’ field with category path. You can manually remove from file goods belonging to categories you do not need.

However, in case you have hundreds or thousands of goods this task seems pretty time-consuming. That is why you might be interested in an alternative.

Export Filtered or Goods from Specific Category

If you don’t want to deal with the entire list in a CSV, you can use Store Manager for Magento application.

It allows you to export products by category (if you have selected it before import) or by any filter you have applied before exporting.

Open ‘Categories & Products’ section of Store Manager for Magento. On the left you can see tree with categories and subcategories.

Select built-in filter ‘Show products from selected categories’ in order to see goods assigned to selected categories on the right pane of the window.

This way moving through your category list you will be able to see the goods belonging to those categories - this is very useful filter.

After that you can export filtered by category Magento products. To do that run Import/Export Wizard of Store Manager form the context menu or from product toolbar.

At the step ‘Select Product to Export’ you can indicate whether you would like to see in exported CSV whole product list, only selected or filtered products.

Since we have previously filtered products by categories, to export goods from specific category choose option - ‘Only filtered products’.

With Store Manager you can not only decide what exactly products to export to CSV from Magento catalog, but also select our the information to be added to file.

You can choose what fields to get in output spreadsheet: just drag necessary attributes from the left and drop to the right.

After export settings are made, you can choose whether you want to open and view the received file right away, check folder it was placed to or do nothing.
